Alignment
Alignment (p.33)
| Alignment does not exist in Oath-Bound. The PHB’s nine-point moral and ethical grid — Lawful Good through Chaotic Evil — has no equivalent and no replacement in the same form. It is not simplified, collapsed, or renamed. It is absent. |
The question alignment was trying to answer — "what kind of person is this character, and how do they relate to good, evil, law, and chaos?" — is not a question Oath-Bound answers with a grid. It is answered by what the character has sworn, to whom, and whether they are keeping it. A character’s standing in the world is determined by their conduct within the oath economy, not by a cosmological category assigned at creation.
Mechanics elsewhere in the PHB that reference alignment — class requirements, spell effects, magic item restrictions, creature reactions — are addressed individually in the relevant PHBO sections. In each case the alignment reference is either dropped, reframed in terms of the oath economy, or replaced by a Oath-Bound-native equivalent. No PHB alignment mechanic carries forward unchanged.
