Character Abilities

Strength (p.9) md

Oath-Bound uses d100 as its primary resolution mechanism. Strength is expressed as a percentile score rather than the PHB’s 3—18 scale. The exceptional Strength sub-table (Strength 18/xx) for fighters is not used. A fighter’s superior physical capability is expressed through their Competency Profile and class-specific mechanical advantages rather than a supplementary percentage roll.

Strength determines a character’s capacity to carry equipment, force doors, and apply physical force. Bonus to hit and damage from high Strength applies as per the CRM equivalence table.

Intelligence (p.10) md

The PHB’s language limits for Intelligence — maximum additional languages known — are retained as a guideline but are not mechanically enforced in Oath-Bound. Language acquisition is handled through the Competency Profile at Session Zero and through play. A character whose background warrants additional languages may have them regardless of their Intelligence score, subject to GM agreement.

The arcane spellcasting implications of Intelligence — spell level limits, chance to know spells, minimum and maximum spells per level — apply as written for Magic-Users and Illusionists.

Wisdom (p.11) md

The magical attack adjustment for Wisdom applies as written. Bonus spells for high Wisdom apply to Oath-Bound divine actors as written, but interact with the Oath-Bound miracle band system rather than the PHB spell slot model. The CRM divine actor rules govern how bonus spell capacity is expressed in practice.

Dexterity (p.11) aw

This section applies in Oath-Bound as written in the PHB.

Constitution (p.12) md

Hit points in Oath-Bound function as an abstraction of combat survivability — they do not represent physical tissue damage in any literal sense. The Constitution bonus to hit points per level applies as written. System shock and resurrection survival percentages apply where relevant, though resurrection in Oath-Bound is an extremely rare and cosmologically costly event rather than a routine clerical service.

Charisma (p.13) md

The henchmen maximum, loyalty base, and reaction adjustment from Charisma apply as written. In Oath-Bound, Charisma also has informal bearing on an NPC’s initial assessment of a character’s reliability as an oath-partner — not as a mechanical modifier, but as a factor the GM weighs when adjudicating first impressions in covenant-sensitive situations. This is a fictional consideration, not an additional table.
